Whitetop Mountain Band in Ireland, 5-9 Sept. 2014

The Whitetop Mountain Band: (l-r) Thornton Spencer, Emily Spencer, Martha Spencer, Debbie Bramer, Ersel Fletcher

Thanks to the FOAOTMAD blog for the news that the Whitetop Mountain Band from Virginia, USA, will be in these islands for three weeks of next month, beginning their tour with four dates in Ireland.

The WMB are one of the most popular dance bands of the Appalachian region, and their own shows, 'well known for the high energy and charisma on stage', feature flatfoot dancing as well as fiddle/banjo instrumentals and powerful solos and harmony vocals on blues, classic country, honky-tonk, traditional bluegrass numbers, old-timey ballads, originals, and four-part mountain gospel songs.

Their dates in Ireland are:

Fri. Sept. 5th: Séamus Ennis Arts Centre, Naul, Fingal, Co. Dublin
Sat. 6th: The Red Room, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone
Sun. 7th: Roadside Tavern, Kincora Rd, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare
Tues. 9th: St John’s Theatre, the Square, Listowel, Co. Kerry

Their subsequent dates in Britain include performing at the Cornish Bluegrass Festival (12-14 Sept.) and the Moniaive Michaelmas Bluegrass Festival (26-8 Sept.) in Scotland.
